Course Time and Date: 06:30 PM - 08:30 PM / 6th September, 2010

Course Overview: This is a highly interactive and fun musical workshop which will share with early childhood staff how to use everyday musical encounters in end of year celebrations. This makes for happy, relaxed occasions which can be shared with parents, staff and children.

  • Enhance your Centre Program with musical encounters throughout the day that can also be used for end of year celebrations.
  • Introduces beautiful folk dance material from the Australian group Shenanigans, that includes music from around the world.
  • Suitable for children 2-5 years with lots of practical ideas to use across the age range, including resources to use with the repertoire, for example puppets and the parachute.
  • Staff have fun practicing the songs, rhymes and games with each other. This repertoire is well loved by children, and based upon our extensive experience sharing music with young children and their families.
  • Strategies to encourage children to explore their voices, develop confidence in using them, develop confidence in themselves, and help singing become a natural part of their day.

Why share music with babies and young children?

  • Music is lots of fun!
  • Music helps children to develop warm and loving relationships with carers, parents and other children (songs can be soothing, humorous, interactive).
  • Music nurtures self-esteem and confidence.
  • Singing enhances linguistic and numeric skills.
  • Music and movement develop balance, gross and fine motor skills.
  • Music encourages discipline and concentration and is engaging.
  • Music develops listening, playing, creating, moving, singing and later on reading skills.
  • Music concepts such as beat and rhythm, pitch and melody, tempo and volume and mood are learnt.
